There are many different types of wood that can be used, but more or less may be available depending on where you live.
Unfinished or finished trim may be purchased depending on how much work you are willing to put into the job.
Base molding comes in a few different looks as well: basic, builtup or blocked.
To secure the baseboard, nails, brads or glue can be used.
To get started, set the baseboard in place to make sure baseboard is measured properly.
Place the longest baseboard at the longest wall, and begin from there.
Lightly sand it down to get rid of minor flaws.
Mark the miter cuts, where two ends will be joined at 45degree angles, with a pencil.
If two pieces must be adjoined along the wall, cut them each at a 90degree angle.
A power miter saw or a miter box is recommended to cut the corners.
If using nails to fasten to the wall, hammer them in until they are almost even with the surface of the baseboard but still exposed, and finish driving them in with a nail set.
If using glue, only use enough so it can stick evenly to the wall, but not so much that the glue is bulging from the sides.
When the installation is complete, finish with a stain or sealer, if it is not finished already.
